Shabu being cooked in NBP underground tunnels, says Aguirre

Shabu is being cooked in underground tunnels inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) facility, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said on Thursday.

He said they received information that drug syndicates smuggled shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride into the national penitentiary by mixing it with bottled water and then once inside, those involved in the illegal drugs trade boil the water until the crystals or precipitate remain behind as shabu.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify the officials and personnel of the NBP involved or might have colluded with those involved in the illegal drugs trade,” Aguirre said.

Last Wednesday, the DOJ already deployed 320 members of the elite Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police to secure the prison while the prison employees are completing their specialized training on jail management and security.

After completing their refresher course, the BuCor jail guards will be re-assigned to other prison facilities aside from NBP.

The NBP is one of the seven penal colonies and prisons administered by the BuCor.

The six other prison facilities are the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City,  Davao Prison and Penal Farm, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, Leyte Regional Prison and the  San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm. TVJ

-- FRJ, GMA News
SEN. LEILA DE LIMA DENIED THE CONNECTION TO COLANGCO

SEN. LEILA DE LIMA DENIED THE CONNECTION TO COLANGCO

Senator Leila de Lima said she would not be cowed or intimidated despite what she described as “incessant vicious attacks” against her in the social media.
“I know that I’m now a subject of incessant vicious attacks in the social media. But I don’t intend to dignify them by probing into who’s behind them and why,” De Lima said in a text message to reporters on Monday.

“It will just be a waste of time. Pinapa sa Diyos ko na lang mga ganyan,” she said.
De Lima was still reacting to aviral video which supposedly showed her rubbing elbows with one of the country’s alleged top drug lords, Herbert Colangco, during an event last year.
The senator has already clarified that the man in the video was not Colangco but Representative Alfred Vargas.

De Lima lamented that she was “practically defenseless” against these rabid attacks in the social media.
“My only defense is a clear conscience and my fidelity to the Constitution and the law,” she said.
“But if they think I will be cowed or intimidated, they’re grossly mistaken!” the senator added.
De Lima earlier filed a resolution in the Senate calling for an “urgent” investigation into the “rampant extrajudicial killings and summary executions of suspected criminals” in the country.
